California Grizzly is a brand new American Brown Ale and the first of it’s kind here at Range. Much like the now extinct California Grizzly, the American Brown Ale has been a little bit forgotten the past few years making way for modern West Coast IPA and of course the Haze train, but we had an itch that needed scratching so we’ve brought this style back to life. We’ve kept this one classic with an all US dry-hop Simcoe & Mosaic to really take you back to the era of malt-forward craft beer. It’s pouring a clear chestnut rich brown, with ever so slight red highlights at the edges, with a creamy tan head that lingers. On the nose, up front that dry-hop addition of Mosaic and Simcoe are really showing, with hints of blueberry, passionfruit and classic pine resin. Take a swig and we’re getting more of the same glorious hop hits, with a beautiful backbone of nutty caramel and chocolate biscuit notes. Super balanced and smooth, threading the needle of hop hit and malt complexity beautifully. The finish is clean and dry, with lingering hop bitterness and a touch of roasted malt that keeps it nice and crushable.
