Tasmania has such an abundance of stunning whiskey barrels, that how could we not produce this epic southern imperial stout? This batch of Family is before any barrel aging, designed to showcase the base beer now or to be cellared to compare against the barrel aged counterpart when it’s ready…

On the nose there’s a blackcurrant and hedgerow with a whiff of toast, on the palate it’s thick and unctuous and deeply roasted. Roast caramel, treacle, golden syrup, dark (dark!) fruit and even darker chocolate notes with a background of coffee and the lightest of spicy esters. A lingering, very bitter finish.
